Thomas Jefferson Tulip Poplar Tree
This majestic tree is off the southwest corner of Monticello and is one of the grandest specimens of it's kind. In terms of age (200 years old), size (over 120' tall with a circumference of 22'), symmetry, vigor, and historical association, this is one of the world's great trees. Jefferson noted planting this tree April 16, 1807. Unfortunately, this tree succumbed in 2008 and had to be removed for safety.
